Jackie L. Martens has been serving our clients in Sonoma and Marin Counties in private practice since 1995 and has worked exclusively in the legal field since 1983.
Ms. Martens graduated from Empire College of Law in Santa Rosa in 1995. She was admitted to the Bar that same year.
During Ms. Martens’ final year of law school she clerked for a family law judge in Sonoma County, which gives Ms. Martens a very unique perspective and insight on how the court system works in Sonoma County.
In addition, Ms. Martens is a member of the Family Law Sections of the Sonoma and Marin County Bar Associations and therefore keeps abreast with all new developments. Further, Ms. Martens serves as Judge Pro Tem in small claims matters and volunteers for Legal Aid to help low-income individuals afford legal services.
Ms. Martens has appeared on the Lynn Tillem radio show on KGO in 2006 to discuss changes in the law affecting registered domestic partners, custody matters and other family law issues. Ms. Martens strives to keep ahead of the curve so that she can give you the best and most accurate family law information and assistance.
Since 1995, Ms. Martens has helped hundreds of clients through their emotionally difficult divorces, high conflict custody matters, spousal and child support cases, and property disputes. Ms. Martens has also assisted unmarried couples, both same sex and heterosexual couples, to establish custody and visitation rights and to enforce agreements between couples to pool income, share assets, and provide support for their families.
Ms. Martens’ philosophy is to assist her clients through effective and efficient representation, effectively cutting through the red tape and complex family law issues so clients can ultimately move on with their lives as quickly as possible.
Sensitive to the stress and difficulties clients experience in litigation, Ms. Martens seeks to resolve cases efficiently and economically through negotiation and mediation, but when that does not work she will aggressively litigate your case including through trial, when necessary.
Ms. Martens is available for appointments as a Special Master in custody matters, since she completed the Parenting Coordination Special Master Program (Helping High Conflict Parents Resolve Disputes) at the Northern California Mediation Center.
This special training has given Ms. Martens a distinctive edge in how she can deal with your individual case. In addition to family law, Ms. Martens assists clients in estate planning matters, including preparing living trusts, wills, and durable powers of attorney for her clients, and handles probate matters and establishing conservatorships and guardianships.
Ms. Martens also represents clients in construction matters, real estate and contract disputes, and other partnership and business disputes.
