EDITOR: Does anyone have a conscience any more? Do greed and inequities always favor the rich and powerful? Forget what you read in the upstanding Press Democrat about John Jenkel (“Debt whittles away at ranch,” Friday). Do you, as members of the jury or members of a civilized and just society, believe that a well-heeled Sonoma County winery should acquire “nearly three acres of flat, Gravenstein Highway land for a mere $1,000”? Well, I don’t.
If ever Jenkel is deemed incompetent by a court of law, this auction would be deemed invalid, and a fair auction with competitive bidding would prevail. Whatever happened to competitive bidding and to the judge who was responsible for overseeing this procedure?
I am not left with a good feeling regarding this transaction.
